What is Project RESET?

Project RESET is a 5-year government-funded research initiative. It aims to gain a deeper understanding about Singapore population's metabolism, heart and liver health as well as lifestyle behaviour to prevent heart diseases, including heart attack and stroke.

Redirecting Poor Sleep Drivers of Early Cardiovascular Disease (RESET-Oura Study) (NUS-IRB-2024-727)

Led by Professor Michael Chee and colleagues from the Centre for Sleep & Cognition at NUS, this study seeks to understand how sleep and wellbeing patterns relate to markers of cardiovascular health collected in the parent RESET study. Participants, who must already be enrolled in RESET, wear an Oura ring — a finger-worn wearable that tracks movement, heart rate, and temperature — continuously over a 2-year period to monitor their sleep and physical activity. They also complete daily mood and wellbeing surveys via a smartphone app. The data collected is then linked to cardiovascular health outcomes from the RESET study to identify how poor sleep may contribute to early cardiovascular disease. Up to 1,500 participants are expected to be recruited, and those who comply with at least 80% data collection over the 2 years get to keep their Oura ring.

Project RESET-VISION: Retinal Imaging for Systemic and Cardiovascular Health (NUS-IRB-2026-25)

Led by Dr Tham Yih Chung from the Department of Ophthalmology at NUS, this study is a sub-study of the larger Project RESET cohort. It aims to evaluate whether retinal imaging and visual acuity measurements can serve as biomarkers for cardiometabolic and vascular disease. The premise is that the small blood vessels visible in the retina may provide clues about a person's heart and metabolic health. Participants — Singaporean citizens or PRs aged 40–70 with an elevated cardiovascular risk score — undergo a roughly 30-minute session involving a medical history questionnaire, a visual acuity test, and non-invasive retinal imaging (fundus photography and OCT scans) of both eyes. The study aims to recruit approximately 3,000 participants and is conducted at NUS MD6.
